Routine Appointments

It's not always necessary to visit the surgery, click here use econsult for Advice and Guidance from one of our clinicians

Appointments may be made by telephoning 0191 275 5740 or by calling at the surgery.

A routine appointment is for 10 minutes and is for one person and one problem. Please do not save up several problems for one appointment. If you know you will be longer please ask for a double slot.

Extended Hours Appointments

We offer appointments on Monday evenings after 6.30pm and Saturday mornings. Please contact the surgery for the exact dates that these appointments are available.

The surgery also offers early morning appointments on a Tuesday and Thursday from 6.40am.

Urgent Appointments

If you have a problem that needs to be seen urgently, you will be asked to come to the surgery at a particular time and you will be slotted in when gaps become available. Only your urgent issue will be dealt with at this time. This may result in a wait of over 90 minutes, although all effort will be made to get you seen more quickly especially in the case of babies and the very elderly. Your patience is requested please. It is not the fault of the reception staff if undue delays occur.

The practice endeavours to see children under the age of 16 at the Surgery whenever possible. When booking a young person's appointment please advise the receptionist of your child's age and a brief explanation of their health problem. This will help us to direct them to the clinician to treat them.

Telephone Consultations

If your problem can be dealt with over the phone, you can ask for your doctor to phone you. Please give the receptionist a brief summary of your problem and how to contact you. Please be sure your telephone allows for incoming calls from a switchboard, otherwise we cannot be held responsible if we cannot contact you.

Please inform our administration team if you need an interpreter so this can be arranged. Please note that family members are not suitable as interpreters.

Instead of booking a GP appointment, you can visit your local pharmacy instead, saving you time and with no appointment needed, you can just walk in.

Please arrive on time for your appointment. If you are more than 10 minutes late, you will not be seen and will have to arrange another appointment.
When booking an appointment with a Doctor or nurse you may be asked the reason for your visit by one of our care navigator receptionists. These staff members have been trained to help patients see the most appropriate healthcare professional for their problem.

Choice of Practitioner

All patients have the right to express a preference for a particular practitioner. However it is not always possible to meet this preference and you will either have to wait longer to see the doctor or nurse of your choice or be prepared to see an alternative practitioner. Please discuss your preference with our admin staff when you make your appointment.

All Practices are required to provide a named GP to all of their patients aged 75 and over. This named GP will have overall responsibility for your care and support.

They will also work with other relevant health and care professionals, who are involved in your care, to ensure that your care package meets your individual needs.

This does not prevent you from seeing any GP in the Practice.

Missed Appointments

Please let us know if you cannot keep your appointment; we will then be able to offer it to another patient. We have implemented a new missed appointment (DNA) policy and the actions listed in this leaflet will take place from 16 March 2017.

If you require a chaperone when you are being seen by a doctor or nurse, please advise the receptionist when booking the appointment as on some occasions these will not be available. The chaperone will be a qualified nurse, healthcare assistant or another doctor.
